The Monteforno, Acciaierie e Laminatoi SA (a steel mill) opened in 1946 and closed at the beginning of 1995. In the 1970s, Monteforno was the largest industrial plant in the canton of Ticino. Carlo Basilico designed the office building as well as the façade of the plant.
